We ain't been this cold since 1875

There is something wrong, wrong, wrong... it's the middle of May in Georgia and it's cold. We are breaking record lows for our highs, plus it has rained so much that my petunia's are rotting and the daylily's are beat to pieces.
I'm glad ya'll enjoyed the lizard fight, I saw one of them yesterday floating by on a magnolia leaf headed for higher ground ... He had a broke tail but other then that he looked well .. lol

Ok need some help can someone tell me what the above plant is ? My Aunt gave it to me and she was calling it an orchid, I was thinking walking Iris but I really don't know ???

Mother's Day cacti just a little late

Got the sweet tator vines divided and replanted these are Sweet Caroline they did great last summer. I was surprised at how many and the size of these things.

and a colorful visitor before the rains

Hope everyone had a fun Monday stay warm..

  1. Hi Cherry, your colourful visitor is pretty. Sorry to hear of the cold weather at your place. Over here is really hot and humid. I like the lovely 'orchid'... its flowers graciously brightening up your day!

  5. Cherry --
I know what you mean. It is 40 degrees right now and the heat is running in the house! It was 40 yesterday morning, too. The good news is that yesterday's 60 degrees and sunshine was perfect for weeding and mulching. The Musician and I were outside from 9-6 yesterday working together in the garden. He's so proud of it now - the man can't stand seeing a weed (lucky for me).

Is that a terrestrial orchid -- a native orchid in the South?

  6. Definitely looks more like its of the orchid variety than iris, to me anyway, and it's really pretty!

I'm in easter NC and we've had the same kind of weather. Had to put the capris and sandals away 'cause my toes were chilly! I hope this unurual beginning of summer doesn't indicate an ultra hot one later.

  9. It is a walking Iris, I have them. They will walk around your garden if you let them.

  10. It's cooler than usual here in Texas, too. SOmething about the air swirling around and coming from the east/northeast.
Some of those lizards grow new tails. The old ones come off easily so they aren't caught by predators. Easier to lose a tail than your life!

  11. We had a late frost warning too, but thankfully everything was fine. I'm hoping that is the last of the cold weather.

  12. Hey Cherry, I know of a iris called Blue Flag that looks similiar..very small buds and bloom...maybe native to where your aunt lives? Very pretty though, whatever it is :)

  16. I think we are starting to get some of that rain down here (central FL)- though it certainly hasn't cooled off! I hope it doesn't drown out too much :-(

  17. I was going to guess that the plant was an orchid, too. Whatever it is, it's lovely. I'll be interested in reading the post when you identify it. Happy blogging!

  18. Haven't had a butterfly visitor here yet, and I'm getting anxious. Haven't seen any hummers yet either, where are they? Sorry about the cold. We had a little frost too, and it's too late even for us. Didn't nip any of my flowers though, they are all close to the house and it must have made a microclimate.

  19. Hi Cherry, We've had cold and wet (REALLY wet) weather here in Maryland too. I have seen only one butterfly so far.
