it's here, it's here, sweet, sweet summertime...
What's not to love about summertime ~ Well maybe the bugs, humidity and lightning

Our yard has been filled with color for weeks now.

This guy died and came back to life 2 feet from where he was planted
it is growing between 2 cross ties and is right in the way of closing the driveway gate
I guess I have got to try to move it but for now I'm just going to enjoy.

Althaea's, Gardenia's, Petunia's, Parrot Lilies, 

I'm in a yellow kinda mood this year. I have painted the bench, swing, planters,
some iron work and even my living room end tables this beautiful
 soft yellow called Wickerware by Behr

Love, love Chaste Trees I have rooted several
 and this year they are all blooming like crazy.

The lemon balm in the pot on the table has been sheered back often for weeks now.
I have been steeping it in boiling water then letting it cool, straining and putting in a mister bottle.
I use it to freshen inside even spray a little on my kitchen rags
 as I'm throwing them in the dryer and the inside of the fridge..
Oh and look I painted the chairs yes yellow..lol

Ta Da my absolutely new favorite plant for summer 2013
is Gomphrena, Fireworks it is the best filler plant ever.
 It's nice and tall, light and airy and everyone will ask you about it. 
Even my local garden shop buddy stopped to see it and added them to her inventory
 so if you are local run on over to Savannah Secret Gardens  and get ya some.

Herbs are doing great we have basil and mints everywhere. The tomatoes are just starting to turn.
Picked my first 2 Cherokee purples this week and of course we had mator sandwiches with them.

another newbie for me this summer is
Verbena Lollipop it doesn't get as tall as other bonariensis 
thinking it is going to be a keeper.

My Fiji Waterfall double  lacecap hydrangea
 has grown so much and is full of blooms this year as is all of the lacecaps.
There's lots more to share but I will save them for another day..

Happy first day of summer I hope each of you have nothing but fun all summer long doing whatever you like.

I have set 2 goals for myself this summer one is to learn every button and gadget on my camera and how to take great shots using the manual  mode and to figure out Windows 8

Gloriosa Rothschildiana Lily

 also know as Climbing Lily, Southern Beauty Lily and Flame Lily. 

These plants can be found in old gardens through out the South.

Sunday while doing pictures for a friend I happened
 upon this one and quickly took some pictures to share

it is a vining  plant that will grow up to 5 feet high.

Notice that the tips of the leaves actually turn into little tentacles

 at the ends and twine onto anything that they can.

it's a beauty and I need to find one for myself.. 

 I say that every year..
and I can't believe it's June already!

Is it really the end of June already ?

Good Morning everyone, I just can't believe we are in the last few days of June. The weather here still feels like spring time. No complaints .....  It's been great for me since I got a late start on all my summer projects and it's also why ya'll haven't been hearing much from me. I have been planting, weeding, painting, weeding, eating, weeding, playing, weeding, pruning and more weeding and I'm sure after all this fabulous rain
I will be weeding some more ...
It's raining again this morning and I have nothing else to plant so I thought I could either clean house or share some of the fun stuff I have been up to with all of you..

 than cleaning house so here we go ...lol 

A new wreath for the front porch made from twigs and vines from around the yard, a cute little metal sign from my girlfriend April. A found nest with some little wooded eggs and my pink Pocketful of posies sign I painted.
I started laughing when I looked at this picture the entire time I was painting the sign I was singing
" Ring around the rosy " well I painted it just like I sing it.. instead if pocket full  I have ran it together pocketful..
Oh well can we call it a Southern thang ...

 I think I might better move my iron gingerbread pieces back to the back if I want to keep them. I would hate to have to hurt someone if I saw them at their house... lol

The swing has gone from Paris Grey to Benjamin Moore's  Southern Comfort Which is my favorite pink.
It has just enough brown in it to make it more grown up looking than most pinks...
Hung my new sign the hubby and I made. It's out of old pickets fence pieces but we sawed off the " pickets " because it was so big it looked like a billboard from the road..

A wreath for the gate.. actually after all this rain she needs a little TLC

the bird bath went from black to a rain washed pinky white. I painted this dang thing white first, didn't like it so I painted it a blue/green .. hated it ..So then I added some of my favorite pink to the white, painted it, loved it.. Well lo and behold it started raining the next thing I knew the paint was sliding right off of it...lol So heck with it I planted the Sedum and called it done.. looking at this picture I think I need to plant some more Sedums in the oyster shells...

my guilty pleasure this weekend

with the rain comes the morning glories and ferns up through the deck boards and my second planting of cucumbers are starting to flower ..

We have been enjoyed some really sweet corn ..
I'll tell ya'll a secret if you promise not to tell..

My computer screen has spots of corn goodness on it... 

You know when you bite into the kernel and it shoots the person across the table from ya .. Well I was trying to enjoy a piece and play on Facebook last night and well ...

and saving the best for last ~ I have found some great perennials for a little bit of nothing at a few different nurseries some were only a buck .. and yesterday while it rained I planted all of them.. I love planting in the rain does that make me goofy ????

10 minutes after I finished hanging my sign on the front porch a gentleman stopped by and asked could he have some hibiscus seeds ... I told him I could do him one better I had a few small plants that I had started but had not sat out yet.. Once he was gone I though hum might better take that sign down ... Nope I love it...

Whoa ya this post is so long it's time to eat again ... where's my dental floss I'm having more corn for lunch..

Good morning everyone hope ya'll are having a fabulous morning. It's another rainy morning here. We have had gobs of wonderful rain and cool cloudy days. I have gotten so much done outside it's hard to believe it's June.. The only downfall of all the rain is not a lot of blooms, more weeds and bugs than I have ever seen and the pool water is chilly again.. The upside, I'm betting the Fall gardens are going to be gorgeous or at least that's what I'm trying to convince myself of.. lol
 oh and a little tidbit of info DO NOT paint a birdbath when you know it's going to rain the paint will slide right off..

Week 1 ~ Summer in snapshots 2011

This summer Amber over at The Starfish Blog is having a party every Wednesday called Summer in snapshots 2011 .. When I read about it last week I knew immediately I wanted to join in. So here we go..
My first week of summer..



No one got in the pool.. hubby was sick, momma was sick and Cherry was worn out.. We love our little pool and are in it every evening it's our time together to chill out and leave our worries behind ...



The Split Second morning glories have finally started blooming. I have to say I am disappointed with them though the blooms are much smaller than I was expecting and don't really open up much.. do you see the heart shaped leaf and the heart in my swing ? I didn't till I uploaded the pictures..



Rain, Woohoo Rain We started getting some afternoon/ evening showers and the highs have been staying in the 90's instead of 100 plus.



Saturday morning we jumped on the scooter and took off to Glennville, Georgia which is where my daddy and the hubby's grandparents are buried. It's a little country town with lots of farm land and fishing ponds. They are known for growing them yummy sweet Vidalia onions we all love to eat. We stopped at Harry's Bar-B-Q for lunch then headed back to Savannah..
Riding the scooter is our new favorite thing to do, it makes you so much more aware of all the beauty around you. We are seeing things we had never noticed before and the smells ~ fresh cut fields, hay drying in the sun, honeysuckle, jasmine, cows, OK that wasn't so pleasant but it did make me notice the beautiful fields filled with horses, cows, and goats ... Now if I could just figure out how to take pictures while zipping down the road.. We did about 170 mile round trip and the beehind was feeling every mile of it by the time we got home..lol

and of course we have to get in a little napping during the summertime..



Summer always goes by too quick it will be fun to have pictures to look back on even those simple we really did nothing kinda day's.. Come checkout the party better yet get out your camera start taking pictures and join us next week ..

I'm looking for some shade around here and a good book to just sit and do or think about nothing. I have had Miss Lois in the hospital for 4 long days and my hubby home sick for 3. It has been in the triple digits for what feels like forever. We have had no rain and with me being gone my poor gardens are parched.. it feels like a Savannah August instead of the first week of summer .... UGGG.... OK I'm done complaining ~ Miss Lois and the hubby are both going to be fine, the rains will come and October will be here soon..

A ride through the Savannah Wildlife Refuge, imposters and poor Mr. Turtle

We have a beautiful Wildlife refuge on the out skirts of Savannah that I have not been to in years. The hubby and I were out riding around on the new scooter which needs a name and ended up at the refuge. It was closed due to some work being done so we just rode along Highway 17 stopping every so often to breath in all the beauty and take pictures ..

The refuge was established April 6, 1927, Savannah NWR consists of over 29,000 acres of freshwater marshes, tidal rivers and creeks and bottomland hardwoods. The refuge is located in the heart of the Lowcountry, a band of low land, bordered on the west by sandhill ridges and on the east of the Atlantic Ocean, extending from Georgetown, South Carolina to St. Mary's, Georgia

as I was taking pictures I saw the birds but couldn't really see them well enough to tell what type or what color the birds were.



when I download/uploaded ( I don't know the difference ) I was surprised to see I had pictures of

The refuge is known for it's rich flora during the humid summer months, the region also supports a diverse wildlife population. The variety of birdlife within the Lowcountry is enhanced by its location on the Atlantic Flyway. During the winter months, thousands of ring-necked, teal, pintails, and as many as ten other species of ducks migrate into the area, joining resident wood ducks on the refuge. In the spring and fall, transient songbirds stop briefly on their journey to and from northern nesting grounds. I can't wait till the work is finished and the entire 4 mile trail is opened back up so we can go back... Now on to more pressing matters see this sweet face.

it is an imposter not a sweet little kitty. This is a wild child hissing, biting and scratching ... Look lady take your camera and get out of here I like hanging out in the rafters it's better than in the engine of your car which is where my siblings are..



more babies ahhhhhh crap.. Momma cat was dropped off by some care less jackass about 8 weeks ago, momma cat disappears, momma cat comes back without babies... For weeks we looked everywhere for kittens and just about the time I decide there is no kittens and make plans to take momma cat to the vet and have her fixed ~ 3 really cute ~ Dear Lord help me to not fall in love kittens show up.. I have been trying to handle them so we can find them homes but only one will even let me get close.



while finally cleaning out one of my small beds yesterday I found this poor turtle .. Bless his little heart it had dug a hole about 4" deep and I guess got wedged between the fence and the cross tie and couldn't get it's self out.
( for Jessica & Maddie small picture bottom left is his bones see his left leg bone Maddie ?? ) Oh GROSS aunt Cherry .. tee hee love ya see ya Sunday !
